Conservation of Energy: Stopped Pendulum

Photo shows the demonstration used at the University of Texas at Austin.

Instructions / Notes:

• Make two reference marks to show where the pendulum was released and where it should stop.
• Raise the pendulum to one the reference marks and release it.
• The pendulum reaches almost the same maximum height at both ends of its swing.
• Some energy is lost.

Demo Staff:

• The reference marks need to be below the string stop.
