Rainbow: Rainbow Sphere
Photo of the Demonstration at the University of Texas at Austin.
Instructions:
- Place the sphere on one side of the projector screen in front of the aperture.
- Use the flashlight to shine light through the aperture on the opposite side.
- This will create a rainbow effect on the front side of the screen.
- Note: this does not create the strongest rainbow effect. It may not be extremely noticeable from the back of the classroom.
Concepts Conveyed:
- Shows how spheres can create rainbows when exposed to white light.
- A real-life example is water droplets in the atmosphere creating rainbows in the sky.
Demo Staff:
- Make sure to assemble the projection screen before class.
