5D20.10 • Resistivity and Temperature: Wire Coil in LN2

Location: Cabinet 2

Instructions / Notes:

• Connect the copper wire coil in series with a rechargeable battery.
• Measure the current flowing through the coil.
• Submerge the coil in liquid nitrogen.
• Measure the current flowing through the submerged coil.

Concept Conveyed:

• The decrease in temperature due to the liquid nitrogen will decrease the resistance of the coil. The current should increase when the coil is submerged.
