Acoustic Levitator
Concepts Conveyed:
- This demo consists of a frame affixing 72 40kHz transducers in an arrangement that creates an acoustic focus region in which small particles can be suspended, and a power and control panel.
Instructions / Notes:
- To start, flip the red switch on the control panel.
- Use tweezers of fingers to drop small styrofoam particles into the central axis of the levitator.
- Alternatively, lay the frame on its side, place the rag underneath, and use the eyedropper to drop small beads of colored water into the center axis of the levitator.
- When lifting, waving, and shaking the levitator, be mindful of the wires and hold a short length with your free hand to avoid yanking or tangling.
Demo Staff:
- Plug in the apparatus and ensure the switch is set to the off position before class
- Provide tweezers, several small pieces of styrofoam, an eye dropper with dyed water, and a rag.
