Beats: Beat Forks

Instructions / Notes:

• Two tuning forks on resonance boxes are provided with a rubber mallet.
• One of the tuning forks has been altered so its frequency is with 5% of its original frequency.
• This demonstration can be used in conjunction with 3B60.20, but practice is needed.
• If a microphone is used it should placed midway between openings of the two resonance boxes.
• A fork of a different frequency can be used additionally to demonstrate destructive interference.

Demo Staff:

• On top of the altered and unaltered fork, provide an additional fork with a different frequency from the two.
